Yoga

Yoga is a thousand year old tradition, but it's just recently become a worldwide obsession by fitness enthusiasts. Some forms of yoga are intense and can help you achieve the same sort of fitness as professional athletes, while other forms will help you achieve more mind relaxation. In terms of relaxation methods, overall, the connection between yoga and stress relief is strong - no matter how hard of a workout you get, or don't get.

You can find yoga books, classes, and videos nearly everywhere. But there are a few different kinds of relaxation techniques in yoga training that are similar no matter what class or program you decide to follow. The first thing that every yoga class will begin with is a simple breathing exercise that helps to settle your insides from the day. You might hear this referred to as a cleansing breath that is supposed to get you ready for the actual practice of yoga. You can use these relaxation techniques whenever you want. Just breathe in with your eyes closed and hold for a moment and then completely exhale all of the air in your lungs.

The next part of the yoga practice is the asanas or positions that help to align the body in a healthy way. These relaxation techniques are simply to be used to help reconnect your mind to the movement of your body. Because you will need to focus your mind on each position, you will not be able to think of anything else in your life - much in the same way that meditation clears your mind. One of the biggest problems that early practitioners of yoga can have is trying to be too perfect at each pose. You don't need to be 'perfect' at any pose - you just need to attempt it. As you practice these relaxation methods again and again, your body will naturally become as good as it can.

While you are in these positions in yoga, you will be told to breathe at certain times. This helps to relax your muscles and allows your body to sink into each of the poses.

There are some poses and relaxation techniques in yoga that might cause you to feel a rush of emotions as you are practicing. This is normal. When this happens, your body is releasing tensions that have been stuck. For many, this allows them to release tension and stress more easily during the day as well.
