Sweating caused by stress

If you're feeling the pressure, you might be also feeling a bit wet. Excessive sweating is a common reaction to stress, but that doesn't make it anymore comfortable and easy to deal with. This sweat is caused by your body's fight or flight reaction and the overproduction of adrenaline. This hormone secretion creates a sense of heightened awareness, which can present itself as more sweat being produced to regulate the body's temperature. But if this is more of a nuisance than a help, here are some relaxation exercises and tips you can use.
  • Wear cotton and natural fibers - Instead of wearing synthetic materials, try to wear more natural fibers so that your body can breathe. While this isn't going to stop the sweating, it will help you to be more comfortable in a variety of temperatures and can reduce the amount of excessive sweating you may be experiencing.

  • Limit your sugar, alcohol, salt, and nicotine consumption - When you are trying to avoid stress, you want to avoid anything that might heighten your reaction to stress. Sugar, alcohol, salt, and nicotine all create heightened responses in your body that can cause you to excessively sweat because your body is trying to get rid of these toxins. Try to cut down at the very least and cut out what you can.

  • Drink more water - Sometimes excessive sweating is caused by the body's inability to control the body temperature. To help your body out, try drinking more water during the day. This can keep your body cool and calm while also replacing any water lost from sweating.
  • Medical attention may be necessary - If typical measures to control stress and anxiety do not work, many patients will find relief from topical medications or oral medications as prescribed by a doctor. These will shrink the pores of the body, limiting the stress produced or they may close the sweat glands entirely in certain areas. Antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications are also recommended for some. Treatments like Botox injections seem to work well in certain areas of the body and some extra strength antiperspirants do too. Surgery may be indicated in some cases when the sweating can not be controlled.

Excessive sweating can also be controlled when you limit the stress that's in your life. Try delegating tasks to others, saying ‘no' more often, and moving at a slower pace. And just don't sweat it.
