Profound Relaxation Becoming ever more at ease within yourself
Charles Moore The4thR | Stress from restlessnessSome of us can not sit still when we're under stress. This restlessness comes from a need to continue to be active so that we feel like we're doing something to conquer our stress. But many times, this is not managing stress that we have; rather it is causing more stress as our lack of focus can cause problems with efficiency. To help you overcome this, here are some tips:- Create a time when you can be restless - If your first response is to be restless under stress, go ahead and allow yourself to do that. Take an hour or a few minutes to simply scramble about doing little things that make you feel like you're in control. Clean your desk, vacuum the room, or get a few phone calls done while checking your e-mail. Have your restless time and then stop and move into a more focused task.
- Don't set time restraints for yourself - If you're a restless person by nature, you need to acknowledge this and adjust your schedule to make it less of a ‘bad' thing. Try to create daily task lists for yourself that involve only the most important things that need to be done. As you complete this list, you will find that you're more focused on the tasks instead of getting them done in a particular time frame, which tends to alleviate stress in the process.
- Create a secondary list of things that can be done when you need to refocus - If you're completing your initial task list, but finding that your mind is beginning to wander, create another list of things that you need to accomplish and then do those items until you're ready to focus again. This system will keep you effective and efficient without feeling too trapped by the things that you need to do.
- Get out of your location once a day - Many people that experience restlessness do so because they tend to be in one place for the majority of their days. This constant venue can cause them to feel trapped and anxious. Instead, why not switch your location a few times a day if you can? Take your laptop and go to a local coffee shop to work. Take your kids to the park. Just go for a walk on your lunch hour. Just get away from the place that you are being restless in.
Being restless can be a sign of someone with a lot of energy to spare, so why not make the most of it? Once you realise how to harness this extra energy, you will find your days become a lot less scattered.
