Charles Moore is far and away one of the greatest practitioners of deep relaxation hypnosis He is gifted talented and perhaps most importantly deeply congruent Jeff Leiken MA The Mentor Counseling Company | Stress from nightmaresJust when you thought nightmares and bad dreams were only for kids, you begin to wake up in the middle of the night crying for your mum. When our bodies are under a lot of stress and we're not effective at stopping stress, those overflowing feelings can become a part of our sleep time. To help you minimise your bad dreams, it's helpful to follow these relaxation tips for a good night's sleep.- Create a specific schedule for your sleep time - Try to go to bed at the same time each night and create a ritual for your night hours. This may mean that you sip hot cocoa or chamomile tea before bed to soothe you or that you read a fun book before you nod off. Find a schedule that works for you and try to adhere to it, even on the weekends.
- Relax before bed - Instead of being at your computer or laptop until right before bed, be sure to turn off anything stimulating about two hours before you want to sleep. This means no nicotine, no caffeine, no computer time and no television. These steps will help your brain downshift into neutral so that you can get a restful night's sleep.
- Keep a record of your dreams - By looking at your dreams as learning experiences instead of horrible events, you can begin to turn your dreams into stress management tools. For example, if you notice that you dream about being naked in public right before every big presentation, maybe you need to prepare yourself more before you give your talk. Find a dream interpretation website or journal that can help you find out what you might be worry about - and then deal with those worries.
Bad dreams can happen no matter what age we are. But that doesn't mean that they need to be a part of our lives forever. By taking the time to create a sleep sanctuary and also to minimise the stress in our lives, we can rest more easily come nighttime.
