Stress from a change in social activities

Your social activities can dictate a lot of your time, so when these activities change in scope or frequency, this can add stress to your life. Perhaps you're unable to attend to social functions because of injury or illness, or certain friends have moved far away from you - in any case, any change in your social calendar can be upsetting if you don't know what to do now. Here are some ways to add stress management techniques to your new situation:

Add more events to your life

If you find that you're not getting as many invitations to events, you may want to create your own bustling social calendar. You and a friend or your partner can find local activities that will help you get out of the house as well as meet new people with whom you might share social time.

Expand your circle of friends

Instead of thinking that you need to be true to a certain set of friends, realise that you can attend social functions with acquaintances as well. If you're single, for example, try to attend singles functions that will allow you to meet people of the same situation as yours. You don't have to marry anyone, but just getting out to see new people can be the kick start your social life needs.

Take classes and courses

By learning something new, you're not only adding dimension to your life and skill set, but you're also able to meet other people that are interested in the same things. When you're learning a task together, it creates an immediate bond that can then extend outside of the classroom.

Fill your time

If you're sick or injured and can not leave your home, you can find a number of other ways to fill your time. You might want to make a list of movies that you haven't had a chance to see or begin a new hobby that you just hadn't had time to do. Or, you can begin to host gatherings at your home in which guests bring everything that is needed so that you can still have the social aspect of your life.

Keep in contact with friends

Many times, the changes in your social calendar are due to the fact that we ourselves are not reaching out to others. Make a date each week to talk to your friends, even if it's in an e-mail or phone call so that you're always in touch.
