Learning to relax

Getting inside your partner's head

We’ve all been there. Everything’s fine and dandy, or at least that’s what you thought!, then out of the blue your spouse says something (or does something) that makes you wonder whether an alien has suddenly taken residence in his head. Remaining calm and relaxed at times like this can be hard to do, so all too often the exchange between you ends up spiraling out of control, leaving you both feeling very stressed.

Here’s our quick, no-nonsense, 3-Step SOS plan, to help you get inside your spouses head when this particular stress button is pressed.

Step 1: Say nothing – Your aim here is to be as creative as you need to be in order to stop yourself from having a knee jerk reaction

Step 2: In your head, ask yourself “what has to be true for (spouse’s name), for him/her to have said that?” – This is to help you make sense of what’s going on for him/her, and to discover his/her motivation. It gives you information about whether there’s something that needs addressing, or not.

Step 3: If you determine that there is something that must be addressed, choose your moment carefully, and address it. Quite often though, there is nothing that needs to be said, and no action that need be taken. Be careful that you don’t create a mountain out of a mole hill just to satisfy your own ego or to make a point.

Stress Solutions+

Take time to prioritize

Failure to prioritize can lead to stress, anxiety and ill-health, so it’s important that you give yourself the time to assess your priorities in life. Write down a list of 3 answers to each of the following questions:

What activities make you feel most happy?

When does your life feel most meaningful?

Number your answers in order of priority and determine how you can incorporate these things into your life on a more regular basis.

(Keep in mind that to make space for something new in your schedule, it often requires letting go of something else first.)

Under the spotlight

I can’t make up my mind….How will I know for sure…But I don’t know what I really want!

In the news this week (U.K.) there was an item that revealed research carried out at University College London to do with decision making. The title of the article was “Snap Decisions Sometimes the Best” and the author (as the title suggests) found that when presented with visual cues about which the participants were asked to make a decision, their gut response was most reliable. Yet it’s no surprise to discover that high up on the list of “stressors” for people, are decision stressors. Or put another way, stress as a result of failing to make a decision, and take action.

Procrastination when short lived and in-frequent, isn’t perhaps such a big deal, but for millions of people ‘analysis paralysis’ consumes them, and when chronic procrastination takes hold, health can begun to suffer.

It’s all very well providing scientific evidence that our instinctive decision making processes are the most reliable, but is there anything available to help people to re-connect to this powerful and necessary inner resource, if somewhere along the way they’ve lost touch with it? The answer is yes, and it comes in the form of the Mythogenic Self Experience – a 2 day training that we’re next running in March.

The mottos of the MythoSelf Process, (the method experienced through the Mythogenic Self Experience, and what we use at The 4th R) is “Choose a life that works” and “Decide.” This is because the developer of the MythoSelf Process (www.josephriggio.com) understood that life is full of choices and that each decision we make (or not!) shapes and molds our lives. Consequently discovering what it is you really want, and learning how to make decisions that will keep you on track to endlessly realizing it, forms a major part of the 2-day training.

If you would like to find out more about this training, click here. With only 2 weeks of the early booking price offer left, we recommend that you hurry and book your place right away!

Functional Relaxation Coaching Program

What makes the Function Relaxation Coaching Program so successful is its "real life" practicality. It's definitely designed for ordinary people in ordinary day to day situations - at work, in the home, and out socially. You won't be learning the kind of relaxation that you have to take time out to do, in a quiet room somewhere. Neither is it the kind of relaxation that relies on a stiff drink, sitting cross legged, or going off to "find your self".

What you will learn instead is how to be relaxed, naturally, as you go about your every day life. Having this ability is priceless and it's what rests at the heart of a life that works. It's what we call Functional Relaxation, and it's what Charles will teach you when you arrange to work with him privately through the Functional Relaxation Coaching Program. Find out more...
