This is why at The 4th R we advocate, and teach in our learn to relax services, a bias toward the positive – what’s working, what’s possible - a “glass half full” approach to life. And guess what? Where you put your attention is where you’ll get your results! If you want help in kick starting your “hardware” to thinking with a bias toward the positive, book for a private lesson or attend a training. Inner tuning relieves anxiety Complete relaxation comes with an inner tuning to a higher source of some kind - whether that be nature, g-d, the universe or what ever else holds meaning in this way. When this isn’t present, we tend to get lost in worries about the future. Tuning into this higher source, and moving through life this way, breaks down the boundaries that separate us from each other, and our own inner selves, and “oneness” is achieved. Emotions such as jealousy, anger, fear and hatred, get destroyed at their roots. The method used at The 4th R to teach people how to be relaxed is the MythoSelf® Process. It teaches the techniques for this “inner tuning”, techniques that, once learnt, you can do for yourself. When our mind jumps about constantly (which it is naturally inclined to do), large amounts of energy get used and we feel fatigued and stressed. When you learn the techniques of the MythoSelf® Process through our learn to relax lessons and training's, you will be learning how to focus the rays of your mind and thus become efficient in your use of your energy. Book n(o)w to learn the techniques for this inner tuning that will relieve anxiety and stress. Under the spotlight Despite getting to bed at a reasonable hour, many people still wake up in the morning feeling exhausted. This is because they are in light sleep, or dream state, where energy is still being used up, rather than generated. If you have trouble falling asleep, or find it difficult to have a deep sleep, try to relax your body/mind using this auto-suggestion method: Starting position (space permitting in your bed!!) – Lying flat on your back, spread your feet at least 50 cm (2 ft) apart, and allow your toes to fall outwards to the sides. Spread your arms out either side (at an angle of about 45 degrees to your body) with the palms of your hands facing toward the ceiling. Take a couple of deep breaths – breathing in and out through your nose. Feel your belly rise and fall with each breath. Image a wave of relaxation making its way up your body, starting at your toes. Allow it to travel slowly and methodically through each part of your body. Feel each of your muscle groups relax as the wave of relaxation travels through them. When it reaches the top of your head, place your attention again on your breathing and imagine that with each in breath further waves of relaxation are flowing through your body, and with each out breath, any remaining tension is being released. Since every action that you make, conscious or unconscious, uses energy, relaxation is necessary for good health and peace of mind. Without proper relaxation, the body/mind becomes overworked and inefficient. To understand the principles of relaxation, it is helpful to understand its opposite – tension. All action creates a type of stress, and, although no-one can live without some stress, undue tensions cause wear and tear and eventual ill-health. Here’s an overview of what happens when you take action: Firstly, stimuli are taken in through the senses and transmitted via the nervous system to the brain. The brain then analyzes the stimuli and decides what action, if any, is to be taken. The brain sends an impulse to the muscles involved and energy is drawn from your body to enable the action to be carried out. The impulse, enforced by the energy, causes the relevant muscles to contract and act. Many aspects of modern life make it increasingly difficult to relax. Working conditions, entertainment (for example films and television), and social activities (for example alcohol, drugs and loud music), leave the body tense, over stimulate the emotions, and deplete stored energy. One of the ways to relax is to reduce the number and duration of stimuli to which we are subjected. This is good - and necessary - but the key to relaxation, and health, ultimately rests in learning how to BE relaxed as we go about our every day lives (as opposed to having to temporarily withdraw from it - to take time out.) Total efficiency comes when we are able to relax WHILE ENGAGED IN THE WORK AT HAND. This requires learning how, and will require conscious effort at first, but you will soon establish a positive habit. The relaxation techniques that we teach at The 4th R are about being in the world and being relaxed (at peace/at ease within…what ever you like to call it). It means that you can be in a meeting, be doing the shopping, be at home with family, be giving a presentation, and be relaxed. This is made possible because the exercises that have been developed by the model’s creator, Joseph Riggio, are designed to teach a person how to be in the world in a very particular way.
