Nutritional Medicine

If you're looking for relaxation techniques, the first thing that you think of probably isn't nutritional medicine. When you think stress, you think of ways to help your body be less stressed - and the way you eat may not seem like one of the ways to accomplish this. But when you think about the processes in the body that are working to keep your body running, it's no wonder that fueling them properly might be a good idea too.

It all begins with looking at the diet you already have. You might even want to keep a journal of the things you eat until you begin to see a pattern of stress and the food decisions you've made. Try keeping a journal for a number of days of the foods you eat as well as the mood you were in when you were eating them. This will help you see links between our nutrition and the stress you have. For example, if you find that you're eating poorly during times when you are under stress and it makes you feel bad, you might want to change this behavior.

But in terms of nutritional medicine and relaxation methods, there are a number of ways to help your body slow down. Eating right is the first step. Try to eat a balanced diet of all of the major food groups, but avoid any excess sugars and fats if you can. You will also want to drink plenty of water to make sure that you're staying hydrated. When you eat right, your body will be able to handle the stresses you put on it, keep its energy up and then keep a cool demeanor no matter what happens.

If you're looking for certain foods to use as relaxation methods, you may want to try foods like complex carbohydrates in order to provide your body with a steady supply of energy. These are unlike simple carbohydrates which will burn off easily and quickly. Carbohydrates also help the body produce chemicals that can cause you to feel more relaxed, so they're a good choice overall.

You will also want to look at making sure you are eating nutrient dense foods that will help support your stressed out body. The better you treat your body, the better you will feel.
