Nausea caused by stress

Everyone has felt a little nausea when dealing with the stress of their lives. Whether it's from feeling overwhelmed or from simply not being able to digest foods properly, this nauseous feeling just isn't welcome. To help you banish nausea from your life, here are some tips for how to prevent stress before it starts to creep up your throat.
  • Drink plenty of water - Though you've probably seen this tip elsewhere, it's just one of the best ways to prevent problems with your stomach. Drinking water allows your body to digest foods easily as well as keep your throat and mouth from feeling dry and uncomfortable. It can also help to water down any digestive juices that might be making you feel ill.

  • Chew gum - The saliva that your mouth produces is a natural acid reducer. When you chew gum and swallow your saliva, you can help to balance your stomach juices and make yourself feel much better. Try mint gum for the maximum effect - peppermint is best.

  • Distract yourself - Some people will respond to stress with an anxiety attack which can show itself as nausea. To help counteract this anxiety, try distracting yourself with something. Play a computer game, go outside, or just close your eyes and think about the beach. By taking your mind off the stress in your life, you can help your body slow down and calm down.

  • Eat smaller portions - When you're feeling sick, you still need to eat as long as you can keep foods down. Try eating smaller portions of your favorite foods or try simpler foods like crackers and breads until you begin to feel better.

  • Try antacids - For some people, antacids are just what the doctor ordered when it comes to stomach upset. Try a few different brands to see which one works best for you. Many people find that just mixing a little baking soda with water works just fine too.

  • Lie on your left side - To help speed up digestion or help an upset stomach, try lying on your left side. This position helps your body naturally speed things along so that your stomach feels better. Lie in that position until you begin to feel relief.

No matter what tip works for you, trying to manage your stress is the best way to alleviate stress related nausea. When you're too tense to digest, that's a sign that your life may need some serious help in preventing stress.
