General Intro

Hi, I'm Charles Moore - (that's me in the photo along side!). I suppose I'm best known as The Relaxation Doctor. My wife (Janice) and I put relaxation training on the map when we set up The 4th R for the study, research and teaching of relaxation for health in the UK. We do this by providing information in our own publications and through media contributions; by conducting a series of community educational programs and events, and by providing educational courses currently ranging from introductory group lessons to private lessons and weekend long training programs.

Our aim with The 4th R is

• To advance the education of the public and health professionals in all matters relating to relaxation
• To preserve and protect the health of the general public by giving advice, assistance and training on how to be relaxed

We don't teach relaxation in the "put your feet up in front of the telly with a beer" or "take a holiday" sense. NO WAY! That kind of relaxation depends upon stimulants from the external environment in order to feel a certain way on the inside. We start with the foundations of an individual and build up wards.


About me

I spent 17 years in the worlds leading investment bank as a Vice President in Bond Portfolio Analysis, generating over 7 Billion dollars over a 10-year period, managing a large client-base in the UK, across Europe and the Far East, and delivering coaching and training to other high-level producers. But I paid a high price for this material wealth.

The expectations of management and the demands to perform and stay ahead were great, and my stress levels were high. My release from the stress was to join in on the big city social scene and live life in the fast lane, which brought about significant health problems. Acute and chronic pain from I.B.S was something that he dealt with day and night, and having surgery to try and fix the problem had become a regular event.

After 10 procedures my faith in Harley Street doctors and modern medicine had worn thin and I began to seek alternative ways to rebuild my health. It began with learning how to be relaxed. Under my own innovative application of principles that are becoming universally recognised as the benchmark for permanently eliminating stress and anxiety, my health flourished. From a base of cutting edge biology and inspired questioning of the accepted norms relating to the treatment of stress and anxiety, I left banking and rapidly established The 4th R as Europe's most respected school of relaxation.

I'm a certified and licensed MythoSelf® Facilitator and Trainer, a Society of NLP Certified NLP Trainer and a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy.  I also have a Diploma in Hypnosis (DHP), and a Diploma in Complete Mind Therapy (DCMT).

But I'm no yogi meditating cross your legs and hum kind of guy! 

The history behind the name "The 4th R"

From an early age we are taught with deliberateness and thoroughness how to read, write and do arithmetic. Having an understanding and ability to do these things is deemed essential learning for every child. As a child progresses to become a young adult the emphasis typically focuses even more upon their scholarly achievements.

At The 4th R we think that in addition to the "3 R's" being taught, a 4th is necessary. How to relax. If people learnt with the same deliberateness and thoroughness how to control their body/mind from the inside so that they could remain profoundly relaxed no matter what, then fewer people would be prescribed medication for the relief of stress and anxiety, or self-prescribing with drugs and alcohol. At The 4th R, we go further still to say that learning to be at ease on the inside should be pre-requisite to anything else. No amount of 'doing' on the outside will ever lead to health, when the foundation upon which all that activity occurs is unstable. What we are proposing is that coming to rest within and maintaining it is essential for health, and our learning to relax services are tailored to achieve exactly that.

It is an alarming statistic, but one in four people suffer with some kind of mental distress ranging from mild symptoms of stress and anxiety to the bleakest depression.  The 4th R's products and services include free and value for money resources for those wanting effective, natural and lasting relief from stress and anxiety, pain control, and assistance with performance goals that rest upon being able to be relaxed.


Our work with clients

We specialize in teaching people how to relax. A kind of relaxation that is profound and lasting, driven completely from the inside, and fosters deep healing. We work at a far deeper level than traditional stress management techniques or coaching. None of the usual stress elimination exercises are used and this is nothing to do with counseling or therapy. Our work stands alone in the field of stress management, pain control and relaxation for health.

"Every person has moments in their life (even if they are few and far between) where "all's well". Contentment, peace and a sense of not being able to put a foot down wrong, is felt in these moments. For ease of explanation, we'll call these moments "being relaxed". Being relaxed occurs as a result of a very particular configuration of your entire physiology and a complex biological process. Every person's configuration is unique to them, and at The 4th R we take you through exercises to elicit your particular configuration, and then we teach it to you, so that you can "run being relaxed" intentionally, instead of it being left to chance of experiencing one of those moments.  No other method of stress control or anxiety relief works at the level of "hardware" first, and then the "software" that's being run through the hardware. Repeated work with clients has proven to us that the most direct, effective and lasting way to stop a person "stressing" and worrying all the time is to first teach them how to use their hardware differently, and then to systematically address the software (the personal mythology) that they are running. This is what we do."

• When a choice about what to be doing confronts you, you will find that you are checking against whether a particular action/event will compromise your ability to remain relaxed

• You will be able to control your response to events and situations instead of feeling as though they are controlling you
