Job disatisfaction

Disliking your job

Who hasn't disliked their job at one point or another? Even if you have the job of your dreams, you might resent it when you're under stress. From deadlines that you are facing to upcoming projects on your plate, it can be difficult to maintain your happy spirits when you're under stress. But if you find that you're disliking your job more than is appropriate or you just want to stop feeling this way, here are some tips that help you with stopping stress that causes you to feel this way.

  • Make a list of the things you do like - When you can't seem to find anything that you like about your job, it can help to have a list of things that you do like. Write out a list and refer to it whenever you begin to feel like you are having a hard time with your job. These things can be past memories, the tasks that you enjoy doing, etc.

  • Don't complain about your job with others - When you start to complain with others in your workplace, you can incite feelings of dislike instead of fighting them off. The more you talk about how horrible your job is, the more you will find things that are horrible. This can also create a setting in which all you and your coworkers do is complain about your jobs - and that's just not something that you want to keep up.

  • Work hard - Even if you're feeling like your job is the worst place on earth, you should try to approach it like it was your first week. Put everything you can into your job to see how you feel at that point. Perhaps you simply need to put more effort into your job to see better results. In doing this, you may be able to create a happier workplace that is also more productive.

  • Ask your boss what else you can do - If you're feeling like you don't really have a place in your workplace, you might want to ask your boss for more tasks or responsibilities. If you're not feeling useful, that may be contributing to the way that you feel about your job. And as an added benefit, your boss will appreciate the fact that you're willing to take on more.

Disliking your job is not a crime, but going to work everyday feeling that way should be. Instead, take some time to evaluate the reality of these feelings. Chances are good that you probably don't dislike your job as much as you think you do.
