HIgh blood pressure caused by stress

The prevalence of high blood pressure in society today has almost become a joke. With all of the responsibilities we have and all the things we need to do, it's no wonder our hearts are beating a bit more strongly than they need to. While it may not seem like a big issue, high blood pressure can thin the walls of the heart and the arteries, causing a higher incidence of strokes and heart disease. But before your heart starts beating hard again, there are plenty of stress management tips that can help you slow down.
  • Cut out the salt from your diet - The better you treat your body, the better it will treat you in return. By eliminating salt from your diet, you can drastically reduce the incidence of high blood pressure - but only if that's the main cause. If you eat a lot of high salt foods when you're stressed, this is the best way to first attack your problem.

  • Increase the water you drink - When you drink more water, your blood will be less likely to be thick and hard to pump. By adding water to your everyday routine, you will be able to not only flush away any excess salt, but also create ‘looser' blood that doesn't need the higher blood pressure to move it from one place to another.

  • Increase your activity - Just as water seems to be the cure for everything, so does exercise. By adding some form of activity to every day, you can reduce your blood pressure and maintain a more normal pressure most of the time. You will also be strengthening your heart so that it doesn't have to work as hard to pump blood in the first place.

  • Try deep breathing - By taking the time to shut off your mind and simply breathe, you can reduce your high blood pressure. Take five minutes a day to daydream that you are on an exotic island (or some other place you'd like to be). Think about what you would do, how the sun would feel, etc. Whenever you feel like your blood pressure is rising, try to go back to this picture in your mind.

  • Lose the weight - Those that lose weight often lose blood pressure points in the process. Even a small weight loss can help you return your blood pressure to normal.
