To live life being profound relaxed does not require a divine intervention That happened when you were born and is simply dormant within you Charles Moore The4thR | Grinding teeth caused by stressWhen you have excess tension in your life, it can reveal itself in peculiar ways. For example, if you have a lot of stress in your life, you may find that you are grinding your teeth as you sleep as well as while you are awake. This could be your body's response to tension - clenching the jaw to create more tension to offset other tension in the body. But since grinding your teeth can actually lead to dental and medical issues, you may want to find better ways of handling your tension. Here are some relaxation techniques and tips for your tense jaw (and life).- Find time for yourself - The best way to create a more relaxed life is to find time for the things that you like to do. When you fail to leave time in your life for yourself, you can often feel outside stress much more strongly. Find one activity that you like to do and schedule it into your week - your body will thank you for it.
- Create more tension - While this sounds contradictory, creating more tension in your jaw will actually cause the jaw to relax automatically. Try chewing on gum or biting down into a piece of rubber to help tense your jaw and then it will release when you're done biting down. The more you do this, the more your jaw will get used to the feeling of being relaxed.
- Wear a mouth guard - Many pharmacies and online retailers sell mouth guards for athletes as well as for those that grind their teeth. Try one when you go to bed at night to help your jaw relax and your teeth to remain 'unground.'
- Do more activity during the day - To help your body release some of its tension in a healthy way, you can workout on a regular basis. Try some form of activity that you will enjoy and do it every day - if only for a few minutes. This will help your whole body calm down more easily and your jaw to be less clenched.
Clenching your jaw and grinding your teeth is quite common, but you still need to take the time to correct the situation. With constant grinding of the teeth, you can wear down the enamel on your teeth as well as your bite, causing cavities, pain, and possibly problems with chewing and eating. Preventing stress of this kind is more than just good for your smile.
