| Frowning caused by stressIf you're feeling stressed, you're not necessarily going to smile. But when you're frowning for most of your day, you might be causing others to wonder why you're in a foul mood or why you aren't a friendlier person. In order to look and feel calmer, here are some ways that you can help you with managing stress and preventing stress from creeping up onto your face.- Look in the mirror - While you may not have a lot of time to spare, try looking in the mirror from time to time. This will help you observe what others see when they come up to you. If you're dealing with clients or customers on a regular basis, you need to be cheerful with a pleasant disposition. And while you might be friendly to them, your face needs to match your interaction. By taking the time to look in the mirror from time to time, you will see when you are frowning.
- Force a smile - Even if it seems forced, trying to smile will help you improve your mood and often make you more relaxed. Even a small grin will help you relax the rest of your face. It's true that you need to use more muscles to frown than you do to smile, so why not conserve your energy by smiling a bit more? Chances are good that it will become a habit.
- Open wide to relax - When you open your mouth wide, you will help to relax the jaws and create a more serene expression on your face. Try opening your mouth wide a few times an hour to help you remove the frown from your face. As you open you mouth wide, breathe in deeply and exhale.
- Pretend like someone is always watching - You might also want to remember that someone is watching you and observing you at all times. While this sounds a bit paranoid, it can also help you to change your expression into one of being happy than of one that's angry and upset.
- Find something to smile about - Try to plan one thing each day that will make you smile. It can be a special time with your spouse or with a friend, for example. Just have something to look forward to each day. Write it down and look at it whenever you are feeling stressed.
While frowning isn't a dangerous anxiety condition, it can make you look unapproachable, which can damage your career and your interactions with others. Try turning that frown upside down today.
