Diarrhea caused by stress

When the rest of your life is out of control, sometimes your body reacts in the same way - through diarrhea episodes. Sometimes your body just can't keep up with the foods that you eat, so it doesn't fully digest them or absorb them into your system. Many people react to anxiety by getting bouts of diarrhea, so it's completely normal. But that doesn't mean that you can't do something about it too. Here are some of the best ways for managing stress.
  • Slow down your pace - When you're stressed out, you may eat faster, move faster, talk faster, etc. It's no wonder that your digestive system will move faster too. Try slowing yourself down in order to preserve your energy as well as preserve the order in your body. Be conscious about how fast you are moving and try to be calmer.

  • Consider adding live cultures - While it would seem that adding live cultures to your body would have the opposite effect, adding probiotics to your diet can help reduce your chances of diarrhea as well as help a current case of it. These compounds help to regulate the bacteria in your intestines which can them help to ease your digestive troubles. You can find probiotics in the supplement aisle of your local health food store or in yogurts. Try adding a serving each day to see if that helps things slow down.

  • Prevent dehydration - To prevent dehydration that is sometimes part of diarrhea, be sure to drink water when you're experiencing symptoms. You might also want to drink a few sips of sports drinks too to make sure your electrolytes don't get out of balance.

  • Eat simple foods - Following the BRAT diet can be helpful if you're suffering from diarrhea - bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. Try eating these foods until you have no more incidents of diarrhea and then slowly add regular foods back into your days.

When you're experiencing diarrhea when you're under stress, you want to allow your body to regulate this itself as much as possible - meaning you shouldn't take anything to stop the diarrhea. However, if you find that you can't keep any foods in you, talk to your doctor immediately.

Sometimes, diarrhea that's associated with stress will simply go away when the stress goes away. Managing stress is the best cure.
