Constipation caused by stress

The more tense you are when you're stressed out, the more likely the rest of you is going to be tense too - enter constipation. Since you're using most of your energy with the fight or flight response when you're stressed, the rest of your body is not getting all of the blood flow and energy that it might need. When you're digesting foods, this might mean that your body is diverting water to other parts of your body, leading to bouts of constipation. But there are ways to prevent this from happening. Here are some relaxation methods and dietary tips to keep things moving along.
  • Drink more water - If there was one magic tonic in the world, it would be water. When your intestines or digested food don't have enough water in the digestive process, it can be harder for them to pass through your system, leading to issues with constipation. Instead, try to drink more water during the day to help you with this problem.

  • Meditate daily - Whether it's sitting in a lotus position and chanting or just closing your eyes and listening to claming music, you need to take time to relax your body in order to prevent digestive troubles. Take at least ten minutes a day to simply calm down.

  • Stay active - While you might be exhausted from the stress you're feeling, the more active you are, the better you will digest your food. Try to walk a few minutes each day or do something else that you like to do - dancing, tennis, etc. The more active you are, the more active the rest of your body will be.

  • Don't fret about it - When you realize that you're constipated, don't make a big deal out of it. Try to relax whenever you do try to go to the bathroom and have no expectations of what will happen. You need to lower all of your stress levels, which means that you need to be calm when you're in the bathroom too.

  • Eat more fiber - More fiber in your diet will allow you to digest things more easily which can lessen the probability of digestive troubles. If you don't eat a lot of fiber now, try to slowly add these kinds of foods to your diet. Adding too much at a time can cause the constipation to be worse.

Being constipated is never fun nor easy, but with these tips, it also doesn't have to be a part of your daily life.
