South West London or over the telephone

What ever the reason for your binge eating, The 4th R can help you to stop using the Functional Relaxation System

Binge eating is categorized as an eating disorder.   A binge eater tends to eat excessive amounts of food in response to stress or anxiety as well as other emotions.  A binge eater is different from bulimia or anorexia as binge eaters don’t typically purge afterwards.  Binge eating can cause many health and emotional problems for the person with this condition and it is a serious disorder that requires attention.

Binge eating typically results in feeling unwell and feeling a huge amount of remorse or guilt after a vast amount of food is eaten. Many people with this disorder eat in secret, past the point of being full as a result of stress, anxiety or feeling of failure in their lives.  The eating doesn’t satisfy them but is a reaction to their circumstances or anxieties.  The result is emotional angst and poor health.

The anxiety associated with binge eating is a large part of the disorder.  It’s most often anxiety or stress that causes the person with this condition to have an episode of binge eating.  The stress causes a binge and the binge creates stress in the individual along with extreme remorse and guilt.  These, together, result in poor health emotionally and poor physical health. Food becomes both an enemy and a best friend to the person with the affliction.  Most often the wrong food choices are made in response to stress and the result can be obesity, high cholesterol, digestive disorders and other health problems.

If you have an eating disorder such as binge eating, learning how to be relaxed with relaxation techniques and exercises can help massively.  Part of recovering from a disorder such as binge eating or other food related disorders is learning to react to stress and anxiety with tools other than food.   Learning to combat stress is a big part in the recovery process.

If you are a more relaxed person who knows how to handle stressful situation and anxiety, you are less likely to turn to food to help you.  If you learn to manage your eating, you will be healthier.  Food exists for nourishment and joy and should not be a source of pain, angst and remorse for you.  Learning to control your eating disorder and use food as nourishment instead of a coping mechanism will help you return to good health both emotionally and physically.
