Sam Riordan | Relaxation techniques to help you to overcome BDD (Body Dysmorphic Dysfunction)South West London or over the telephoneBody Dysmorphic Dysfunction is a serious condition that is apparent when someone is excessively focused or obsessed about what they believe is a serious flaw in their personal appearance. Perhaps this person feels that they have too large a nose or are concerned about the shape of their body or a skin flaw. BDD (Body Dysmorphic Dysfunction) can present itself in many different perceived disorders or flaws and can render a person socially impaired and unable to live a normal life due to their preoccupation of this flaw. In severe cases a person may develop obsessive-compulsive disorder, refuse to leave their home for fear of being judged by their flaw or even may result in suicidal tendencies. Someone who has this disorder spends a large amount of time preoccupied with what they believe is their abnormality. BDD (Body Dysmorphic Dysfunction) can create a high amount of stress in the life of someone with this condition. The person who believes that the flaw they see in themselves is so abnormal or unattractive that they often refuse to go to work or school and stay out of social situations. They feel unworthy of love and acceptance. The stress and anxiety that are a result of this behaviour will continue to elevate their situation and can result in poor health. An obsessive behaviour that can interfere with every aspect of one’s life can do serious damage to their health and general well-being. If you have BDD, in a minor or major form, learning to relax and accept yourself as acceptable is an important part of the healing process. People with BDD who seek out plastic surgery or cover their flaws with clothing or hats or make-up still very often feel ashamed or unattractive. The key to healing is to learn how eliminate your feelings of shame and anxiety and build your feelings of self-worth regardless of your appearance. In doing so you can begin to live a healthy and normal life - working, going to school or being involved in social interactions. It’s proven that social interaction can help in the healing process and if your anxiety is reduced about being in public, you will be on the road to recovery much quicker than going it alone.
